“I guess you could call me an old-fashioned doctor. When young people tell me they are interested in a career in medicine, I tell them they need three qualities to succeed; a strong scientific knowledge base, a love of problem-solving, and a desire to help people. These are the things I use to meet the needs of my patients on any given day. In this way, I strive to make a difference, one patient at a time.”

Personal Interests

When Dr. Oakley arrived in Hagerstown 23 years ago, she had always lived in the city. Since being in Washington County, she has been thrilled to enjoy all of the treasures of outdoor life, including fishing, camping, gardening, and hiking. Dr. Oakley has been privileged to be part of our rural community, where her children attended school and she and her family have worshiped, shopped, and thrived. On any given day, in any given venue, Dr. Oakley is proud to be recognized and welcomed by members of the community as one of them.

Biography

Dr. Oakley has been practicing pediatrics and adolescent medicine in Hagerstown, MD for 23 years. As an undergraduate, she attended Princeton University, where she majored in Psychology and minored in English. After a stint in graduate school at the University of Virginia, she attended medical school at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, then went on to complete a residency in Pediatrics there as well. While in Baltimore, she also had the privilege of working at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Mercy Hospital while on rotation.

After settling into the new demands of a rural practice, Dr. Oakley found herself increasingly involved in the community and often muses now that she can’t imagine living anywhere else. Dr. Oakley is especially interested in the sub-specialties of hematology/oncology, dermatology, cardiology, and adolescent medicine within primary care. At this time she is looking forward serving a new generation–many of whom are the children of her original patients.
